OpenLinux 64 Product
OpenLinux 64 is an enterprise-class, Intel Itanium family processor-based Linux operating system that includes both workstation and server operating configurations for building Internet-enabled business solutions. This product comes with an Installation Guide and five 5 CD-ROMs.

The following is a list of the major OpenLinux 64 features:

・Permission and Service Audits – Source code, running services, and file permissions have been audited and modified, where necessary, to reduce and/or eliminate security risks. Each system will be installed with all unnecessary ports and access points closed or turned off. It will be up to the administrator to open up ports and other access points as needed. Caldera has documented exactly what it has done and will make this available to potential customers. This will allow administrators to be able to secure the system without hiring an expert to find and close off potential security risks.

・Intrusion Detection – Intrusion detection software has been integrated into OpenLinux 64 to check for port intrusions and to advise the administrator of these intrusions so that he/she can take protective action.

・Linux 2.4 Kernel – The Linux 2.4 kernel is the core of the OpenLinux 64. New features in this release for the kernel include larger RAM support, better SMP scaling it is best at 1 – 4 processor configurations up to 32 processors, journaling file system support, and many other performance enhancing capabilities.

・Secure Webmin – Webmin provides secure communication between the system being configured and the browser that the administrator is using.

・Java – A 64-bit enabled JVM.
・Reiser File System – The Reiser journaling file system will be offered as an optional experimental file system.
・64GB RAM Support – The Linux kernel was prepared to support up to 64GB of RAM.
・Docview – Docview is a remote on-line document viewer that serves up the entire product documentation in web pages accessible from a web browser either locally or remotely.
・Multiple LAN Card Support – Supports multiple simultaneously operating LAN cards.
・RAID Tools – Includes a set of software RAID tools for set-up and management of RAID systems.
・Mod_perl – Includes the Apache perl module.
・Mod_PHP – Includes the Apache PHP module.
・PHPlib – Includes the PHP library for PHP application support.
・mod_backhand – Includes the Apache web server load-balancing module for load balancing between like Apache web servers.

System Requirements

Processor: At least one Intel Itanium processor.
Architecture: Conformance to the Peripheral Component Interface PCI or Intelligent input/output I2O standards.
Memory: 1GB minimum or more of RAM. Performance is enhanced as more RAM is added.

OpenLinux 64 supports up to 64GB of RAM for general-purpose usage.
Disk size and partitions: A hard disk of 4GB or larger is recommended.
You will need to have a swap space partition equal to the size of your physical RAM. If you are using applications that require large amounts of swap space, you may require more than the recommended minimum swap space, e.g., greater than the size of your physical RAM.
Mouse: A serial, bus, or PS/2-compatible mouse is recommended to access all graphical desktop functionality.
Video: A Super VGA monitor and video adapter capable of at least 640×480 resolution is required to run the graphical desktop.
